Muriel is my first novel. It's more of a portrait than a linear story per se. What Muriel, the bird-loving narrator, says in these pages has a hesitant, almost uncertain undertone, and it is difficult to trust him.

He refers to aspects of his life that sometimes show him foolish and insecure and other times as an inexperienced person who follows his most genuine instincts. Talking about the woman of his life, Mercedes, is the initial objective of his story-portrait, and it can be appreciated, in the way he describes her, his true intentions, or not. Any doubt that the character has raised in the reader is never resolved, because Muriel, like everyone else: lies.
